Swim Spas and Spa Pools, How are they different?

The most immediate difference between a swim spa and a spa pool is their size. A spa pool is made for sitting and relaxing and the water height is just right to sit in your head above the bubbles. Swim spas as the name would suggest are designed to allow users to swim in them, because of this they are longer, wider and deeper. Most swim spas are at least 4m long, 2m wide and 1.3m deep, so they’re essentially a small, above-ground pool.

While swim spas share a lot in common with a small pool, they also have a lot of differences that set them apart. Swim spas are designed to allow you to swim in them, to do this they have powerful swim jets at their deepest end. Sapphire Spas swim spas are available with up to three pumps for their swim jets, providing the ability to practice even competitive swimming in them. The swim jets are fully variable in all of our models too, so you can dial it back for enjoyment, a gentle walk or low-intensity exercise against the current. You would need a much larger pool if you wanted to get the same workout from a traditional pool. Swim spas are self-contained, so there is no separate plumping when you get one installed and you don’t need ugly equipment cluttering up your yard making them a cheaper, easier and all-round nicer alternative to a pool. Because there’s no external equipment, this also means cleaning is easier, all of Sapphire Spa’s options have in-built water filtration and sanitization so you can spend more time enjoying your spa and less time cleaning it. All in all, a swim spa can give you almost all the benefits of a swimming pool with non of the headaches.

Swim Spas : Our range of swim spas come with every feature that we have to offer for these alternatives to spa pools. At the entry end you have steps for easy and safe entry (and great for young children to play). There are also massage seats at the entry end of these models, perfect for mum or dad to relax while watching the kids. There are also recovery seats at the swimming end of each spa (or you can use your massage recliner), making these great for exercise or sports recovery. The swimming end with its variable swim jets can be used for water-based workouts from swimming down to gentle stretching or just for the family to splash and play.

Dualzone : The dualzone is designed to remove the need to choose between a swim spa and spa pool, because it has both. Because it has both a swim spa and spa pool, different people can enjoy the benefits of both types of spa at the same time. The water temperatures can be controlled independently, so the swim spa can be kept cool for exercise and recovery, while the spa pool can be kept warm for relaxation and massages. The spa pool users also do not need to worry about their enjoyment being disrupted by the swim spa end as each is powered by separate pumps, so you will barely know the other is in use.

Plunge Pools : These are a great option for those who don’t need the full flow of four swim jets and who are not seeking the creature comforts of a spa pool. They still come with two swim jets, suitable for gentle exercising and relaxation and the entry ends still feature basic seating options with a few gentle massage jets for added atmosphere and relaxation. Plunge pools are great for families with young children who want some space to play in summer or those who want to add tranquillity or a place for basic water exercise to their backyard.
